The Junior High Band

The Staunton Junior High Band is comprised of 7th and 8th Grade Students from Staunton Junior High, Zion Lutheran, and St. Michael's Schools in Staunton, Illinois.  As a member of this band students particpate in a variety of activities.  Students particpate in The Marching Terrier Band, The Staunton Junior High Concert Band, and the Newly Formed Miystic Maroon Pep Band.

The Marching Terriers

The Marching Terriers is the Junior High Marching Band.  They perform for a majority of Staunton Hometown Parades, including Homcoming, Fourth of July Celecration and Lions Club Halloween parade.  Students get a taste of high school marching band in this ensemble.  Students learn basic fundamentals of marching, Forward March, and Right and Left Turns.  Students also experience the thrill of playing popular music for audiences surrounding the parade.  The Band has four basic parts, The Drumline, Brassline, Woodwindline, and the Drum Majorettes.  The only Auditioned parts of the band are the Drum Majorettes, and the Drumline.

Concert Band

The Staunton Junior High Concert Band is the core of the Junior High Bands.  In this Ensemble students learn to play together as one unit/team.  Students learn to put all the basic skills they have acquired together to form one sound which then can be transferred to other ensembles.  Students play a varied list of music including classical pieces, marches, fanfares, modern music, and pop tunes.  This ensemble is the only auditioned group at Staunton Junior High.  Students must audition to be placed properly for class.  Students use a method book provided by the school for classwork and homework.  Students are required to practice two and a half hours a week for this ensemble to be recorded on their practice record, signed by a parent and turned in every week for a grade.
