The High School Band

The Staunton High School Bands are deeply rooted in tradition as an integral part of the fabric that makes Staunton whole.  Over the last 50 years the Staunton High School Bands have grown to become one of the most respected band programs in Southern Illinois.  From the Days of the Red Shoe Brass Fantasy to today's Marching Bulldogs, the program has evolved and developed to meet the needs of the students, parents, and the Growing Staunton Community.  Currently the band program at Staunton High School enrolls 96 students from a student body of 465.  The High School Band Program consists of the Marching Bulldogs, Bulldog Pep Band, and The Staunton High School Concert Band.

The Marching Bulldogs

The Marching Bulldogs perform at every home football game for the High school.  The band does a traditional pregame show, half-time show, and stand tunes.  The band will also begin a climb back to the top in 2009 with the addition of two Marching Band Competitions.  The Marching Bulldogs are a non-auditioned required part of the Band program.  The only auditioned part of the Bulldogs are the Drum Majors and Section leaders.  Auditions are held in April before marching season begins.

The Color Guard

The Marching Bulldogs are accompanied by the SHS Color Guard.  They meet 1st quarter and 4th quarter of the year, as well as the summer months.  The Color Guard performs with the Bulldogs at every performance. They are an internal part of the marching band and would not be complete with out them.  The color guard is an auditioned group.  Auditions are held in March every year. 14 ladies will make up the color guard in a given year.
